About

I am a researcher and filmmaker with a strong interest in ethnography, sound, and experimental documentary.

Since 2022 I am a PhD Student in Italian Studies at New York University, where I also pursue a joint degree in Culture & Media, a practice-based program in ethnographic filmmaking.

I am based in Brooklyn, but travel regularly to Bologna and Berlin, the cities where I studied and lived before.

Much of my work starts from or leads me back to memory, sound and the poetics and politics of space.

I am also thinking about landscapes and inhabitance, about how we constantly create worlds with the activity of our senses, turning some of them into homes. As human animals we inhabit environments, attuning ourselves to the rhythms of the present and its multiple pasts.

I see filmmaking and sound recording as ways to engage in new relations with spaces and communities around me, to create filmic bodies in which marginalized voices can resonate, and to make alternative modes of perception possible.

Sometimes I improvise at the piano to accompany the projection of silent movies.

I am always open to collaborations.

Voices carry histories of bodies and spaces. They often touch other bodies in the social theater to claim for something that has been, that isn’t otherwise accessible any more. A story, a wound, a right.

While gentrification makes our cities increasingly uninhabitable, we are flooded with images and sounds designed to turn us into unquestioning consumers. Maybe art can help us to re-appropriate time, space and desire. To claim the right to re-imagine our environements as inhabitable spaces, as well as the right, for everyone, to dwelling and movement.
